Magic 8 Ball's Tips for Driving 8+ Hours by Yourself

Prior to leaving:

- Check vehicle; tire pressure, fluids, windshield wipers etc.

- Clean car, organize stuff when you pack. Make sure you have water, snacks, chargers, sunglasses, a light jacket within arms' reach. CDs too.

- Shoes! Wear something not too stiff. I don't use cruise control so having something with comfortable ankles is key.

- Mentally prepare. You must charge your mind like you charge your phone.

- Fill gas tank right before leaving. Pay attention to fueling opportunities and always fill up once you reach 1/4 tank remaining.

On The Road:

- Call people. Friends, family, coworkers, whoever.

- Observe surroundings and use signs to orient yourself to your location. Always know where you're at.

- Enjoy the solitude.

- Cry!

- Drink water, not soda.

- Nuts & fruit, not chips & candy.

- Sunflower seeds if you get tired.

 - Track your progress & ETA.

- Goals are good but always subject to change. Think realistically.

- Walk and stretch your body but stop as little as possible.

- Pay attention to how the car feels, gauges, lights, etc.

- Be prepared for anything.
